2012 Year End — Part I

Brad Angelo's year to remember



16 — Senior captains on head coach Dave Shambach’s 2012 Lockport tennis Lions are Brendan Williams, Connor Dry and Brian Smist. Wesley Korir of Kenya wins the Boston Marathon.
17 — LHS senior Rob Arlington tosses a complete-game victory with nine strikeouts as the baseball Lions beat visiting Niagara Falls, 8-2, at Outwater Park. Besides a strong game on the hill, Arlington goes 3-for-3 at the plate.
18 — Key returners on head coach Miles Patterson’s LHS varsity track team are Alex Reid and Keeley Ralyea. Brian Ratajczak executes a perfect suicide squeeze bunt with one out in the bottom of the seventh to spark Newfane past visiting Medina, 9-8, topping N-O baseball action.
19 — Senior slugger Emily Belfied homers again as the LHS Lady softball Lions crush visiting Kenmore East, 13-2. Buffalo Bills running back Fred Jackson signs autographs downtown. Alex Reid is a triple individual winner as the track Lions sweep Niagara-Wheatfield at Max D. Lederer Field.
20 — The 2012 Lockport Boys Basketball Clinic is slated for July 9-19 at LHS, announces camp director Dick Russell, the Lockport boys junior varsity basketball coach.
21 — Jon Jones records a light heavyweight unanimous decision win over Rashad Evans of Niagara Falls in the main event of a UFC card in Atlanta.
22 — Lockport seniors Marisa Guyton and Emma Sobieraski, along with Royalton-Hartland senior Jesse DeWaters, are named to the NYSSCOGS All-State Girls Basketball Team. Tracey Stoddard dominates the 2012 City Bowling Tournament, winning her eighth women’s title. Lockport’s Tim “Werty” Wertman rolls a record individual series of 812 in the team event.
23 — The Western New York Athletic Conference honors the Lockport Town & Country Club with a plaque of appreciation for hosting numerous tournaments in recent years. LT&CC golf pro Ed Borek accepts the plaque from NCCC golf coach Tony Ventresca, GCC golf coach Tom Moynihan and tourney director Eric Knuutila.
