2012 Year End — Part I

Brad Angelo's year to remember

(Continued)

LOCKPORT —

24 — Josh Beshaw, Tyler Chapman and Tom Furlong are all double winners for the Lockport track Lions in a 101-40 win over visiting Kenmore West. Kailin Szymanski is a double winner for the Lady Lions in their 97-44 win over the Lady Blue Devils at Max D. Lederer Field. Ithaca senior Emma Dewart of Barker wins the heptathlon at the 2012 Penn Relays.
25 — LHS freshman Jordyn Kwoka and junior Shannon Krywcun drive in two runs apiece as the softball Lady Lions down visiting Lewiston-Porter, 10-5, improving to 6-0 in the NFL. A two-run double by Jayda Meadows highlights Roy-Hart’s narrow, 14-13 softball win at Barker.
26 — It’s a bases loaded, one-out grounder to Lockport shortstop Patti Burdick, who scoops and fires neatly to catcher Nora Passuite standing on home. Passuite turns and quickly guns the ball to Kelly McKeever at first for a sixth inning-ending double play. It’s a big defensive play in the Lady Lions’ 8-5 win over visiting Niagara-Wheatfield. The Bills select South Carolina cornerback Stephon Gilmore as their first pick (10th overall) in the 2012 NFL Draft.
27 — The Canal Cup stays put for a sixth straight year as Lockport defeats visiting North Tonawanda, 12-2, in their annual boys lacrosse rivalry game. Senior David Craddock and juniors Zach Brown and Kyle Teeter net two goals apiece for LHS.
28 — Lockport’s Victor Ubiles places first at the Men’s Open Light/Heavyweight Division at the 2012 Can/Am Natural Body Building Competition in Buffalo.
29 — The Shelridge Country Club in Medina is set to host a special golf tournament to help raise funds for the Royalton-Hartland basketball team. Veteran coach Mark Rydza is organizing it. There’s sign-ups for Kenan soccer and An-Jo and Little League baseball ongoing.
30 — Mighty Casey delivers this time as Lockport junior Casey Domski smacks a bases-clearing double in the fifth, then adds a two-run double in the sixth, leading the baseball Lions past visiting North Tonawanda, 11-4, at Outwater Park. With the win, head coach Steve Styrzo’s team improves to 6-0 in the NFL.
