2012 Year End — Part I

Brad Angelo's year to remember



1 — Jillian Golding scores three goals, while Roserita DiMillo and Drusilla Updegrove add two goals apiece as the Lockport Lady lax Lions beat Niagara Falls, 10-2. Lockport’s Ezra Nwachukwu is a triple winner in a boys and girls track sweep over Lewiston-Porter at chilly Max D. Lederer Field.
2 — Wilson’s Lindsey Bryer tosses a no-hitter in a 2-1 Niagara-Orleans League softball victory over previously-unbeaten Albion. NFL great Junior Seau, 43, commits suicide in his California home.
3 — Lockport native Kelsey Frasier, a senior at Hi Point University, earns her third Big South Scholar Athlete of the Year Award. Kelsey, a 2008 LHS graduate, is the daughter of retired Lockport Schools Superintendent Bruce and Linda Frasier.
4 — Connor Dry and Brian Smist win at singles and J.J. Napoli improves to 6-0 at doubles, winning with partner Jeremy Cogovan, in a 4-1 Lockport tennis win over visiting Kenmore East. Napoli’s usual doubles partner, Bailey Reid, competes in his first varsity third singles match.
5 — The LHS softball Lady Lions rebound with a 1-0 win over visiting Grand Island. Danielle Donorovich drives in Emily Belfield with the game’s only run. I’ll Have Another, with jockey Mario Gutierrez, wins the 2012 Kentucky Derby.
6 — Lockport’s Connor Dry and Taylor Schaffert, Starpoint’s Allison Gillet and Wilson’s Kelsey Zahno are among those honored at the 47th Thomas E. Hewitt  Sports Awards Dinner at Niagara County Community College.
7 — The Lockport Town & Country Club hosts Golf Channel’s Amateur Tour. Buffalo Bills running back Fred Jackson earns a $9M two-year contract extension.
8 — It’s official. Lockport pro bowler Brad Angelo announces that a deal is in the works to purchase South Transit Lanes in Pendleton. Tiffin junior Allie Quast of Lockport is named Div. II Independent Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Year.
9 — Emily Belfield cracks a towering homer to left and the Lady softball Lions roll over Kenmore West, 3-1. Alex Weaver tosses a two-hitter and Rob Arlington smacks a two-run homer for the baseball Lions in an 8-2 win at Ken West.
