2012 Year End — Part I

Brad Angelo's year to remember



18 — LHS seniors Connor Dry and Brendan Williams advance to the finals of the 2012 Niagara Frontier League Boys Tennis Doubles Tournament. Coach Mo Mahar’s Wilson Lakewomen softball team advances to the Section VI Class B-2 quarterfinals with a 6-4 win over Southwestern. LHS hosts its first alumni basketball tournament.
19 — NCCC sophomore pitcher Jon Corbi (Starpoint) hurls seven strong innings as the Thunderwolves baseball team beats top-seeded Gloucester, 6-0, advancing in the Div. II World Series. I’ll Have Another wins the Preakness.
20 — Lockport pro bowler Brad Angelo wins his fourth George A. Obenauer Masters Bowling Tournament at Transit Lanes in Williamsville, becoming only the second, four-time champion in tournament history.
21 — Lockport’s Jordyn Kwoka goes 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored, but her Wheatfield Hurricanes travel softball team loses to the Lancaster Heat, 10-9.
22 — After spotting West Seneca West a 3-0 lead, the LHS baseball Lions bounce back to beat the Indians, 9-4, in a Section VI Class AA pre-quarterfinal at sunny Outwater Park. Austin Herman and Zach Dewey net two goals apiece but the lax Lions bow to Lancaster, 9-4, in the sectional playoffs.
23 — The Lockport Town & Country Club hosts the PGA Junior Tour. Roy-Hart youth football and cheerleading teams are holding tryouts at Hartland Town Park on Ridge Road.
24 — Buffalo Bills Hall of Famer Joe DeLamiellure signs autographs at the Bewley Building downtown. He’s pictured in the US&J with avid Bills fan Kathy Heiman of the Town of Lockport, the grandmother of Green Street superbaby Wyatt Brown.
25 — A two-run single by Ryan Metz and an RBI single by Zach Yates helps spark Roy-Hart past Wilson, 21-4, in a Section VI Class B-2 baseball semifinal at Roy-Hart Elementary. New Jersey scores an OT goal to beat the Rangers, 3-2, advancing to play the Los Angeles Kings in the upcoming Stanley Cup Finals.
