26 — Golf columnist Ken Ruggerio says the tee we know today was patented in 1922 by Dr. William Lowell, a dentist from Maplewood, N.J.
27 — Darlo Franchitti wins his third Indianapolis 500.
28 — LeBron James scores 32 points and adds 13 rebounds as the Miami Heat beat Boston, 93-79, in Game 1 of the NBA’s Eastern Conference Finals.
29 — Lockport’s Bobby Holmes wins second Sportsman Division feature race at Dunn Tire Raceway in Lancaster. Royalton’s Tim Durfy finishes seventh in the Four Cylinders feature.
30 — Anze Kopitar scores a breakaway goal in overtime, lifting the Los Angeles Kings over the New Jersey Devils, 2-1, in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals in New Jersey. Level 8 gymnast Carlin Serrianne takes first place on bars and floor exercise at the Stumpfs Anniversary Meet in Williamsville.
31 — Bill Wincott cards a 52 to win the Lockport Town & Country Club’s Men’s Memorial Day Golf Tournament. Wincott is followed by Don Vergils (55), Bill Quade (57) and Dave Poole (59).
1 — The Section VI boys and girls track championships begin at Lewiston-Porter High School in Youngstown. Johan Santana tosses the first no-hitter in New York Mets history.
2 — The Los Angeles Kings get another overtime goal in the NHL FInals, this time from Jeff Carter, beating New Jersey, 2-1, to take a 2-0 best-of-seven series lead, heading back to L.A.
3 — Retired Buffalo Bills wide receiver Andre Reed signs autographs at the Bewley Building downtown. Jimmie Johnson wins his seventh NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Dover. Tiger Woods wins the Memorial Golf Tournament in Dublin, Ohio.
4 — The Los Angeles Kings beat the New Jersey Devils, 4-0, to take a 3-0 best-of-seven series lead in the Stanley Cup Finals.
5 — Lockport junior Keeley Ralyea will return to the state meet to compete in the discus. Lockport’s Desmond Stoll earns his first varsity letter in golf at Central College in Iowa.
