20 — Alex Gamache’s 45-second pin over his Lew-Port opponent helps propel the mat Lions past the Lancers, 46-27. Doug Blazier (152), Dylan Nuhn (179) and Marshall Taylor (220) also earn pins for head coach Joe Scapelliti’s Lions.
21 — The Buffalo Sabres drop their 12th straight road game, 4-2, at St. Louis. US&J outdoors columnist Bill Hilts Jr. talks about the upcoming Salmon School training seminar in Olcott.
22 — With wins over the San Francisco 49ers (20-17) and the Baltimore Ravens (23-20) in their conference title games, the New York Giants and New England Patriots, respectively, will meet in this year’s Super Bowl. Starpoint graduate Natalie Whitman scores 10 points in Hilbert College’s 59-48 women’s basketball win over New Rochelle.
23 — Maxine Riter (Level 6), Kristine Marinaccio (Level 4) and Alanah Bushor (Level 3) are first place finishers for the Lockport Flips at the 17th annual Graffiti Gymnastics Invitational in Niagara Falls.
24 — Jesse DeWaters nets a team-high 13 points and teammate Kristi Harnish adds 11 as head coach Don Baker’s Roy-Hart Lady Rams beat visiting Wilson, 51-34, in a Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball contest in Middleport.
25 — Jason Jolley (126), Nate Martin (132), Darious Matalavage (138), Steve Lakes (160), Jake Krafts (182) and Mike Tolli (195) earn pins for the Panthers as Newfane finishes its N-O wrestling season a perfect 7-0 with a 54-25 win at Medina.
26 — Starpoint graduate Amir Billups is ranked seventh in the nation in Division III three-point shooting. Billups, the son of Edward and Carmen Billups, is a senior at Fredonia State College. He’s connected on 39 of 82 attempts (47.6 percent) beyond the arc so far this season.
27 — LHS senior point guard Shaun “Smiley” Allen scores 10 points and adds five steals and seven assists as head coach Dave Gilson’s basketball Lions down visiting Niagara-Wheatfield, 53-37. Lockport’s Brittany Wright has a big day in winning the shootout round at the NFL Individuals Bowling Tournament at Manor Lanes in the Town of Tonawanda.
