18 — Starpoint senior Matt Schutt wins the 50 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke at the Section VI boys swimming championships.
19 — Lockport senior Marisa Guyton is the MVP as Lockport stuns state-power Shenendehowa, 47-38, at the 2012 Lockport Kiwanis Club Girls Basketball Tournament at LHS.
20 — LHS senior Tyler Laubacker will represent Section VI and the Lions at the upcoming state bowling tournament in Webster. Sabres’ forward Paul Gaustad is the subject of trade talk.
21 — Buffalo Bills CEO Russell Brandon calls the team’s move to try and extend the infamous Buffalo-Toronto Series, “a significant step forward.” Others disagree. Ryan Miller stops 30 shots as the Sabres down the visiting Islanders, 2-1.
22 — Erie Community College freshman Samantha Stachura-Lee of Lockport finishes fifth at the Region III Bowling Championships in Hudson Valley. Pro bowler Brad Angelo of Lockport sits in the top 20 at the 2012 PBA U.S. Open in New Jersey.
23 — Lockport’s Mike Feeney and Anthony Orefice advance to the state high school wrestling finals in Albany. LHS junior Alex Reid and senior Robert “Bubba” Ralyea earn a trip to the state indoor track championships.
24 — Lockport Bowling Association Hall of Famer Gary Kinyon wins his third Tri-City Masters Title, defeating Tonawanda’s Mike Hanes, 446-386 in the two-game finals at Allie Brandt Lanes.
25 — Jamie Curry nets 16 points, adding seven rebounds and five assists in Wilson’s 62-31 win over visiting Cleveland Hill in a Section VI Class B-2 girls basketball quarterfinal. Jesse DeWaters scores 16 in Roy-Hart’s 42-38 win over visiting Gowanda in a Class B-2 quarterfinal in Middleport.
26 — Starpoint claims its second straight club hockey small school title with a 5-2 win over Cheektowaga. Matt Kenseth wins his second Daytona 500.
27 — The Buffalo Sabres trade Paul Gaustad to the Nashville Predators for a first-round draft pick in 2012 and a fourth-round pick in 2013. Head coach Bill Beilein’s NCCC Thunderwolves are set to host a Mercyhurst in a Region III men’s basketball quarterfinal.
