6 — Head coach Bill Shaw’s Lockport Lady Lions out-last Lancaster, 57-54, to win their fourth Class AA girls basketball championship in nine years at Niagara County Community College. LHS senior Marisa Guyton tops everyone with 24 points, nine rebounds and four steals. The Lady Redskins are coached by Lockport’s Karen Catalano.
7 — Jason Pominville nets the game-winner in OT as the Sabres beat the visiting Hurricanes, 3-2. Four-time NFL MVP Peyton Manning says goodbye to Indianapolis.
8 — The Lockport Lady Lions basketball team (17-3) preps for a trip to Canandaigua and a battle with Section VI-champion Penfield (22-0) this weekend in the state Far West Regional. The Buffalo Bills re-sign tight end Scott Chandler to a two-year contract.
9 — The Tasmanian Devil is at it again in 2012. Barker graduate Emma Dewart wins the high jump and places in two additional events en route to being named Empire 8 Athlete of the Week. Emma, a nationally acclaimed senior student/athlete at Ithaca College, is the daughter of Jonathan and Amy Dewart.
10 — Marisa Guyton scores 13 points, but the LHS Lady Lions lose to Penfield, 54-37, in the state Far West Regional in Canandaigua. The loss marks the end of an era in LHS girls basketball history with final games played by outstanding seniors Guyton, Patti Burdick, Emily Elliott, Maggie Glenn, Emma Sobieraski and Kendra Warren. 
11 — Barker’s Emma Dewart wins her second straight NCAA championship in the pentathlon. Tony Stewart wins the Kobalt Tools 400 in Las Vegas.
12 — Tyler Myers scores 2:01 into overtime, lifting the Buffalo Sabres over the visiting Montreal Canadiens, 3-2.
13 — Lockport Kids Wrestling Club grapplers Chris Duncanson, Kirk Feeney, Andy Lucinski, Mitch Seaver, J.R. Leuer, Shey Williams, Julius Williams, Kamson Williams, Max Feeney, Steven Kapuscinski, Tom Wendt, Dontay Gill, Emery Lange, Brad Straw and Jackson Doran all qualify for the upcoming state tournament in Cornell.
