CRIME: Cops are closing in on KFC suspects

Lockport police are closing in on the remaining two suspects in Monday’s armed robbery of the Kentucky Fried Chicken on West Avenue, according to Detective Lt. John Yotter, who assisted in the arrest of the first suspect.
David L. Nelson, 26, a parolee, was caught about 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday by detectives Kevin Schrader and Yotter without incident at Nelson’s residence. He was charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree assault.
Nelson confessed to his part in the robbery, according to the police, and provided the names of the two other suspects.
The suspects have Lockport addresses, but their names were not released. The police continued their search for two suspects Wednesday.
The armed robbery at KFC took place about 8:40 p.m. Monday. A caller from the scene said three men held guns to their heads and then fled.
Police found cash from the robbery at KFC and on Prentice Street, where the suspects climbed a fence. Residents told police Nelson was involved in the robbery.
Lockport Police were aided by the Niagara County sheriff’s Department, New York State Police, U.S. Border Patrol Air unit, Border Patrol officers and the Middleport Police Department.
Additional charges are pending, and the investigation is continuing.
