Tim Marren

BLOG: Can't wait until Sunday's column? Click below

  • MARREN: Staffing levels were unacceptable at group home
This week was not one that anyone in Lockport — especially us here at the newspaper — would have ever wanted or wished for or even expected. Just the constant flow of horrible news made me sick, as I’m sure it did many of you. I can’t speak for everyone else here, but I’d assume they felt the same.

  • MARREN: Become a follower, make us your friend

  • MARREN: Searching for our 'Marley'
By the time you read this column, my wife and I will have already made a two-hour trek Saturday morning out to Penn Yan. Penn Yan on a Saturday morning you ask? We weren’t looking for Riesling, we’re in search of a chocolate Lab to add to the family.

  • MARREN: Flood of unexpected projects
Is there anything more fun than home improvements? No, I don’t think so.
Sarcasm aside, you may be thinking the same thing this long holiday weekend as you tinker around the house, fixing things here and there, trying to knock items off your ever-growing list.

  • MARREN: Streamlining out technology
A report this week revealed there are more U.S. households that use cell phones than land lines — phones hooked up through your phone company. Lots of wires and stuff ... you know what I’m talking about.

  • MARREN: Incentives needed for homeowners
It’s interesting what you’ll find on the Internet sometimes — especially on our newspaper Web site.
But lately our normally off-the-wall and sometimes obscene community discussion forum has been pretty constructive.

  • MARREN: State of newspapers reflected in film
I could never be a music or movie review guy because I can’t even remember lyrics of a song or titles of a movie. Actors in those movies ... forget about it.
So, in an effort to not appear as a movie critic, because I’m not, I’ll just simply say — you have to go see “State of Play.”

  • MARREN: Getting the old tisk, tisk
It’s funny, whenever we’re at a family party, my wife Katie always has to take a ribbing about how I’m ALWAYS writing about her. These loved ones may be exaggerating just a bit, but she does make a cameo once in a while on this page.

  • MARREN: A day for the birds
After a long week at the office, a nice day like Saturday or Sunday to sleep in is just what the doctor orders sometimes.
But the last few weeks, our tenants below us have been creating quite the racket early on weekend mornings, waking us when we’re trying to catch some extra shut-eye.
