SOUP KITCHEN: Mother enjoys helping out

By Tasha Kates
Lockport Union-Sun & Journal

Helping out at the Salvation Army’s soup kitchen is nothing new for Linda Weese.

The Lockport resident has given her time in kitchens in Albion and Buffalo, and is now working eight days a month at the Sister Mary Loretto Memorial Soup Kitchen.

Weese has done everything at the soup kitchens over the years, but has been working as a dishwasher in Lockport since May.

“It takes 1 1/2 minutes in the dishwasher per load,” Weese said. “I also do the pots and pans.”

The mother of three moved to Lockport in February and has expanded her social circle while working and dining at the soup kitchen. Sometimes Weese’s children even come for lunch.

“There are lots of friendly people here,” Weese said. “It’s great to meet so many new people, especially since I’m new to the neighborhood.”

Weese, who works at the soup kitchen under a work program through public assistance, said she intends to stay there for as long as she can to help people.
