One city resident has a problem with the entrance to Grossi Memorial Park.
The West Avenue park is somewhat hidden, with the entrance at the back end of the parking lot of M. Carter Decorations.
Under the large red sign announcing the park’s name, where the pavement from the parking lot meets the gravel and dirt entryway, there is a slight drop-off.
“You pull in and hit it, and when you go to leave you hit it,” the resident wrote in an e-mail. “I twisted my leg a few times in it. There’s many elderly people that walk near it, and someone is going to break an ankle.”
He added the entrance has been a problem for 15 years.
Streets Supervisor Mike Hoffman said he wasn’t aware of the problem and didn’t notice it last time he was at Grossi Park, which was last summer when city crews did some work on a building in the park.
The entrance to Grossi Park is already strange because of the parking lot situation, he said.
“I can take a look,” Hoffman said. “We’ll certainly check it out and see if there’s something we can do.”
With the city coming into its peak paving season, it might be possible to fix it this summer.
“If we have a little asphalt left over, maybe we can make a better transition there,” he said.
