College accessibility is topic of program

Dr. Paul Vermette

EPIC — Every Person Influences Children, will host a special program, “Your Child Can Go to College,” which is open and free to all parents throughout Lockport. The presentation will take place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the YWCA, 32 Cottage St.

The purpose of the program is to let parents know that no matter their own personal educational background and economic situation, college for their children is more attainable than they may think.

No registration is necessary.

Guest speaker will be Dr. Paul Vermette, a full-time professor at Niagara University for 30 years and a former educator at several public and parochial schools, including DeSales Catholic High School. Vermette has been a highly visible advocate for teacher professional growth, conducting hundreds workshops and serving as a consultant on both sides of the U.S.-Canadian border.

He will share with the audience the importance of a college education, how to apply for college, various scholarships that are available and the benefits of the overall college experience.
