Many years ago, the Mullane family established a scholarship at DeSales Catholic School in the name of their father Jack, a graduate of DeSales Catholic High School and the University of Notre Dame, and a longtime supporter of Catholic education. The $2,000 scholarship is awarded to a graduating DCS student who will be attending a Catholic high school.
Current eighth-grader Elizabeth Swartz is this year’s Mullane Family Scholarship recipient. Swartz is involved in National Junior Honor Society, St. Francis Society, Mass Choir, swim team and the school musical, and she has found academic success earning first honors.
“Elizabeth embodies everything we hope for in a DeSales graduate," Principal Karen Judge Rahill said. "In the five years that I have known her, I have witnessed Elizabeth’s kindness, intelligence, and willingness to help others. I am so grateful to the Mullane family for allowing us the opportunity to recognize such a deserving student.”
Swartz said of her experience attending Catholic school, “DeSales has given me so many wonderful memories and friendships, and those are the things I will take with me.”
Swartz is the daughter of Derek and Anne Marie Swartz of Lockport. She plans on attending Mount St. Mary Academy in September.
