Lockport Schools Federal Credit Union has awarded four scholarships this year. The recipients are Lockport High School seniors Mara Spero, Andrew Putnam and Ethan Menges and Starpoint High School senior Elizabeth Bradley.
Mara, the daughter of Joe and Cathleen Spero, participates in Yearbook, UNYTS, Student Council, Principal's Advisory Council, Student Athletic Academic Committee, Latin Club, Wilderness Club and Interact Club, and she has been a member of the cross country, indoor and outdoor track and lacrosse teams. She is a member of National Honor Society, the Latin, math, social studies and science honor societies and serves as vice president of the Class Council. In the fall, Mara plans to study nursing at St. John Fisher College. Her goal is to become a nurse practitioner.
Andrew, the son of Michael and Martha Putnam, is a member Bible Club, Class Council, Student Council, Interact Club, UNYTS Club, Wilderness Club and Drama Club. He also is a member of Concert Choir and Vocal Jazz Ensemble and serves as a class officer. He was an American Legion Boys State nominee and was named an ADPRO Sports Section VI WNY Scholar Athlete. Andrew is a member of National Honor Society and the Spanish and math honor societies. In the fall, Andrew plans to major in physical education and play soccer at St. John Fisher College.
Ethan, the son of Megan and Timothy Menges, is a member of the varsity soccer and swimming programs. He also participates in UNYTS Club, Principal's Advisory Committee, Interact Club, Latin Club, DECA and Toastmasters International Youth Program. He's a high school representative for Leadership Youth Niagara County and serves on the Senior Class Council. He is a member of National Honor Society, a recipient of the HOBY Scholarship at the University of Rochester and is recognized as an NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete, a Quality Student, LYNC Sole Leader of the Year, Toastmaster's speech winner, and a DECA New York State qualifier. In the fall, Ethan will begin studies at Ohio State University, where he received the National Out of State Buckeye Award. He plans to major in human resources and international business.
Elizabeth, the daughter of Michelle and Brian Bradley, is a member of the Starpoint soccer, basketball and softball teams through which she received ALL ECIC II recognition for soccer and basketball. She was also a Spartan Athlete of the Week and received the MVP Award for soccer and basketball, the Golden Glove Award and has earned 15 varsity letters. Elizabeth is a member of the LINK Cabinet, Class of 2019 Cabinet, Donate Life Club, Voice Your Opinion Club and participated in the Lock-in to Lock-Out Cancer. She serves as president of the Starpoint chapter of National Honor Society and is a member of the mathematics and science honor societies. In the fall, Elizabeth will begin studies at D'Youville College, where she is enrolled in the PharmD program and will be a member of the women's basketball team.
