MIDDLEPORT — The Royalton Hartland school drama department will present the musical Seussical at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the high school auditorium, 54 State St. Based on the books of Dr. Seuss, the musical features Cat in the Hat, Horton the elephant and a host of other beloved characters.

The story is told by the cat who visits the many Seuss stories with JoJo (Jordyn Bobzien). The story is built around Horton the elephant, who finds a dust speck on which he hears people from Whoville. He decides to protect them as best he can. Later he helps a friend and ends up sitting on an egg for Mayzie La Bird (Mackenzie Rothwell) while she goes off and has a wonderful vacation.

Gertrude (Madison Pratt), a bird with a very small tail, befriends Horton and helps him protect his little Who friends as well as care for the egg that he remains on. Meanwhile, Cat visits the Circus, Solla Sollew and the Butter Battlefield and thinks up many fun things to do and explore.

Songs from the show are varied and full of energy. The message is that you can think up any kind of thoughts in your imagination and there, in your thoughts, anything is possible.
