100-year Optimist Joint Mixer organized in Lockport

CONTRIBUTEDFrom left, Sarah Wright, vice president of Barge Canal Optimist Club, welcomes new member Lisa Breese, board member Renee Knight and NY NE Optimist District Lt. Governor Pauline Leacock at a past Joint Optimist Mixer. Four Optimist clubs in Lockport are hosting this year's joint mixer at Lock 34 Bar & Grill on March 19.

The Barge Canal, Lockport, Monday Night Cruise and Sunrise Optimist clubs will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Optimist International by hosting a Joint Optimist Mixer from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday March 19 at Lock 34 Bar & Grill, 80 Main St. All community members are welcome at the admission-free mixer.

Lockport is home to multiple, active Optimist clubs which all have the purpose to develop Optimism as a philosophy of life utilizing the tenets of the Optimist Creed. Optimists have a positive approach, an upbeat outlook, and commitment to creating a more optimistic future for children. All local clubs are seeking new members.

“We seek women and men of good character with a keen interest in serving our community," mixer co-chair Peggy Allen said. “In order to serve youth and community effectively, a club must have able, dedicated members.”

“It is not often that one has the opportunity to meaningfully affect the lives of others,” added mixer co-chair Pauline Leacock. “Through Optimist Club membership you will have this chance. With you we can be a better Optimist community!”
