A Niagara County Department of Social Services worker, Christopher P. Niziol, admitted Wednesday to forging a bogus letter that purported to written by Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul.
Prosecutors say Niziol created a bogus letter Feb. 15, claiming the state would be forwarding checks to a DSS client handled by Niziol, who worked in child support collections.
The client did not receive any funds because of the bogus letters and was not charged, according to Assistant District Attorney Susan Bjornholm.
Niziol, 47, of Vermont Avenue, Lockport, pleaded guilty to third-degree forgery, a misdemeanor, in Lockport City Court, rather than face a felony forgery charge. He could face up to one year in jail when he is sentenced Sept. 18 before Judge Katherine Alexander.
Bjornholm said she does not know why Niziol wrote the forged letter.
