NEWFANE — A South Main Street resident reported Friday evening that an outdoor water faucet on her home was damaged some time between Thursday evening and Friday afternoon.

A hole in the side of the faucet pipe appears to have been made by a flat head screwdriver, according to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office. The faucet is valued at $200.

The victim told a sheriff’s deputy that she has ongoing issues with another South Main Street resident, who told the deputy that she had no knowledge of the faucet incident — and has kept distance from the victim after filing a police report of her own, when someone damaged her vehicle.

The case is closed pending further information, the sheriff’s office said.

Wildlife access project completed

GRAND ISLAND — A project aimed at providing improved public access to a wildlife management area has been completed.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office last week announced the completion of an $81,500 project at the Spicer Creek Wildlife Management Area, where a second accessible hunting blind/observation deck was developed. A 1,300-foot trail to the shoreline blind on the Niagara River will provide waterfowl hunting and wildlife observation opportunities.

The project is one of four new outdoor access projects completed as part of the NY Works Program.

“New York is home to some of the finest outdoor recreation areas in the world, and these upgrades will make the sites more accessible to visitors,” Cuomo said in a press release. “These ... projects continue to showcase New York’s beauty while offering a wide variety of activities that people of all ages and interests can enjoy.”

This year’s state budget included $6 million in NY Works funding to support the creation of 50 new land and water access points connecting hunters, anglers, bird watchers and others to more than 380,000 acres of existing state and easement lands. To date, construction has started on all 50 sites and nearly 20 of them are complete.
