SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Food, friendship and fun at The Dale

Maureen Wendt

Sharing a meal with friends, family or work colleagues is a common activity. Have you ever thought about how defining food can be in society and how essential food is to a relationship? There is a good reason why we come together to eat: Food connects us.

And, I write about socialization fairly regularly in my column ... so if we can combine, food, friendship and fun, it is sure to be a winning combination. I hope you will consider attending one or more of the following activities at The Dale Association, 33 Ontario St., for food, friendship, fun, or all of them!

An Ice Cream Sundae Social is being held on Tuesday, July 2nd at noon. Please join us for this free event to make your own ice cream sundae; we'll have toppings galore for you to enjoy. Come with your friends or make new ones. Please call in your reservations to 433-1886.

A patriotic themed Independence Day Lunch is being held on Wednesday, July 3rd at 11:30 a.m. The meal will be provided by the Niagara County Eat Well Stay Well program and will include hot dog on a bun, baked beans, corn nibbler and apple crisp with whipped topping for a recommended donation of $3.25. Call 433-1886 to reserve your seat.

Get your chairs and summer sandals ready for Summer Beach Picnic on Friday, July 26th at 11 a.m. This is our annual summer picnic for members; members and guests are welcome. Weather permitting, the picnic will take place at the Widewaters pavilion off Market Street. Please bring a lawn chair. Join us at the beach on the Erie Canal for hot dogs, hamburgers, macaroni salad and ice cream. Meat is from Scapelliti's and we will have a guest griller, Sam Scapelliti. Longtime friend of The Dale, Michelle Farina from BlueCross Blue Shield of WNY, is donating the ice cream and fun prizes. In addition to picnic food, fun games including Bingo will be played and fun is sure to be had by all. Thank you to Univera for support of the event as well. If the weather is rainy, the picnic will be moved to The Dale Association. Please call 433-1886 for details and to make your reservation.

Summer is just getting started, but make your calendar for End of Summer Luau Party on Tuesday, August 20th at 11:30 a.m. This will be a luau themed luncheon with music and entertainment. The senior center will be transformed into a Hawaiian experience. Call 433-1886 for cost information and to make your reservation.

Current members, potential members and the community are invited. I hope you will come connect with others and enjoy the socialization, food, and fun. All are welcome.
