Daniel Bragg is the Royalton-Hartland School District Board of Education president for the 2015-16 school year.

Long-time board president Patricia Riegle decided not to run for re-election this year to the school board, ending her 12-year run. Bragg was nominated by board member Keith Bond and was elected with a unanimous vote.

Bragg has been serving as a member of the Board of Education for 12 years and has raised eight kids in the Roy-Hart school system. In addition to serving on the Board of Education, Bragg has also been a long-term member of the Royalton Town Board.

“He has been the longest-serving board member and has always been a stable influence,” Bond said. “It made sense to nominate him and I think he will do a good job.”

Bragg hopes to continue the direction that the board has taken the district, and to continue making decisions that positively impact the district and its students.

“We want to continue to maximize education with the dollars made available to us courtesy of the New York state,” Bragg said. “I hope that the board will be able to continue on and work together as one for the best interest in our students.”

With two new board members added to the Board of Education, Bragg hopes that a flow of new ideas will make their way in discussions in order to better the future of Roy-Hart.

New members sworn in were Gasport resident Carrie Choate and Middleport resident Chad Owen, both of whom have children within the Roy-Hart school system.

Kenneth Koch was elected vice president.

In other news, Roy-Hart Board of Education meetings will now be held on the third Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. with any exceptions marked on the school calendar online.

The next board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 20 in the high school media center.
