Lockport city residents from low-income households may be eligible to subscribe to a local community solar program for no upfront cost or participation fee.

The opportunity is available through the state's Solar for All program, which aims to provide solar energy to homeowners and renters who lack the ideal conditions for installing solar panels of their own.

Subscribers receive power from their regular electric provider, while energy produced at the community solar project is sent back into the electric grid.

To be eligible, applicants must pay their own electric bills, have used at least 2,000 kilowatt hours of electricity in the past 12 months and fall within income eligibility guidelines, ranging from $28,692 for an individual to $55,176 for a household of four.
