The woman who nearly drowned Saturday at Olcott Beach has been upgraded to fair condition at ECMC.

Melissa Fisher, 33, of Newfane, had been in critical condition since she was pulled from the water after jumping off a raft she was on with her sister.

Fisher was not wearing a lifejacket when she went in the water to pull the raft closer to shore. When she began to struggle in the water, her sister called for help, and a passer-by on shore called 911.

Fire personnel performed CPR at the scene, and Fisher was transported to Inter-Community Medical Hospital. She was then taken to ECMC by Mercy Flight.
