A hunter died in the woods in Royalton on Wednesday morning.

According to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, at 9:52 a.m., central dispatch fielded a call about a hunter falling from a tree stand in the woods behind 4562 Royalton Center Road. First responders from multiple agencies found the hunter, a 68-year-old man, unconscious and could not resuscitate him. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff's office believes the man suffered a medical emergency while in his tree stand and fell to the ground. Investigation of the circumstances continued late Wednesday.

The man's name was withheld pending notification of his family.
