New spot, same great Taste

Attendees take in a past Taste of Lockport on Main Street. The event is being replaced this year with the inaugural Lockport Food Fest.

LOCKPORT — A new food festival dedicated to only restaurants in the Lockport area will be held in August.

Lockport Food Fest is a brand new event that will be held by Lockport Main Street Inc. from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug 11, LMSI Program Director Jessica Dittly said.

Dittly said Lockport Main Street has been building "a really strong reputation" for putting together "high quality" events in the city, like a year-round farmer's market, Locktoberfest and other events.

When it was discovered that the current food festival, Taste of Lockport, was not going to be organized this year, Lockport Main Street decided to reinvent the Lockport food festival.

As a result, the decision was made to only have Lockport area restaurants.

"As long as the business address is Lockport, they will be invited to participate," Dittly said, noting that some restaurants may be in the Pendleton area but have Lockport mailing addresses.

Dittly said the event will also allow food producing vendors to participate.

"Keeping the festival to exclusively Lockport restaurants and food producing vendors will allow our business community to shine," she said. "It’s time for us to focus on what we do really well and to show the reason we’re a destination for food."

Each year will have a special category of food and this year a "Slice Off" will be held amongst the different pizzas that area restaurants have to offer.

The event will be held on parts of Main and Pine streets.

Live music and food judging will be part of the event. Attendees will be able to vote for their favorite items on the last page of the booklet that will be handed out.

Dittly said the event is still looking for sponsors.
