The Lockport Post Office will be commemorating Lockport's 20th annual Mother’s Day Breast Cancer Canal Walk with a pictorial postmark offered during the walk on Sunday at Widewater’s Marina on Market Street.
The Post Office first took part in the canal walk during its fifth year to help raise money for the fight against breast cancer.
The Post Office will also be selling the Breast Cancer Research Semipostal Stamp, which can be commemorated with the pictorial postmark.
A pictorial postmark is a collector's item, creating a special souvenir for a specific date or event.
A portion of the proceeds collected will be donated to breast cancer research. More than $81 million has been raised for breast cancer research through stamp sales, according to commemoration coordinator Tim Goodrich.
Postal representatives will be at the walk from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Collectors and out-of-town requests for the postmark will be processed for 30 days at the Lockport Post Office, 138 East Ave.
