A Wilson woman accused of embezzling more than $1 million from a Lewiston woman over nearly eight years pleaded not guilty Friday to grand larceny.

From February 2003 to October 2017, Beverly Woolson, 77, of Youngstown Road, served as a personal assistant to Patricia Dowd, 87, who suffers from dementia. Woolson, who managed Dowd's finances, began embezzling funds from Dowd's bank accounts in December 2009, eventually writing 1,135 fraudulent checks, valued at over $1 million, according to a suit Dowd filed against Woolson.

Woolson, who if convicted could face up to 15 years in prison, has been free on recognizance since her arraignment in Lewiston Town Court on Nov. 20, 2018.
