The Niagara County Community College baseball team had another outstanding year, even if it didn’t meet the program’s lofty standards.
The successful season was recognized Monday as three Thunderwolves earned NJCAA Division III All-American recognition.
Grand Island native and first baseman Vinny Chiarenza (Canisius HS) was named to the first team after hitting .415 with nine home runs, 53 RBIs and 10 stolen bases.
Catcher Matt Cross (Starpoint), who was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 19th round of the recent MLB Draft, made third team, as did pitcher Joe Kruszka.
Cross, who committed to the University of Pittsburgh but is expected to go pro, had seven home runs and 44 RBIs while hitting .382.
Kruszka, a University at Albany commit, posted a 1.37 ERA over a 16 appearances, including seven saves. He struck out 52 while walking 13 in 26.1 innings.
